BRIEF

Creswell Crags is a Nottinghamshire-based tourist attraction boasting a stunning limestone gorge, historic caves and Ice Age cave art dating back 50,000 years. The site also houses its own visitor centre, museum and an abundance of wildlife habitats. The client required a new brand identity which captured the history, magic and mystery of the site, while driving a long-term increase in visitor numbers.

SOLUTION

It was important for our studio team to experience the timeless beauty and history surrounding the site first hand and gain a clear understanding and appreciation of its rich and vibrant past. Walking in the footsteps of early humans and woolly mammoths around a dramatic limestone gorge, our team was inspired to create several powerful identities which matched the mystery of this archaeological wonder.

The winning identity featured a mammoth and a subtle reference to the Creswell Point – one of the earliest known man-made tools. Using a bold typeface, a colour palette of deep reds and oranges and geometric lines, representing both the man-made and naturally formed features of the site, the result was a unique and exciting identity which resonates with a curious audience.

Following the creation of a comprehensive set of brand guidelines, the identity has been rolled out across all digital channels, printed literature and on-site signage and wayfinding.
