We’re celebrating our strongest financial year since 2006 as well as the promotion of Account Manager Tom Walters to the position of Account Director and company Director as part of our long-term growth strategy.
Founded in 2002 in a former milking parlour, we pride ourself on delivering an open and honest service – an ethos which stems from Managing Director Nigel Rowlson’s desire to be transparent when doing business with clients.
Following an impressive start which saw us work with household names such as Bravissimo and The National Trust in our early years, like many we suffered at the hands of the credit crunch in 2009/10 and were forced to scale back our team and resources in a bid to remain sustainable.
After successfully steering the business through its toughest period, Nigel set about putting the foundations in place to build the agency back up again. This included growing the team from 2 to 7 employees between 2012 and 2017 and moving us to our current home of West Bridgford.
For Nigel, the rewards of riding out the financial crisis and learning from those harsh realities are now coming to the surface, with momentum building over recent years and culminating in us recording our strongest year in over a decade in 2019.
“We had a remarkable and unexpected 2017 – growing our turnover by 66% and making ourselves more profitable by being smarter in how we operate – with most of the tools and expertise we need all in-house. 2018 then saw us consolidate our existing client-base, take on new projects and maintain our momentum but before the close of the decade, I wanted to grow substantially again to make sure we didn’t ‘stay still’”,
Nigel’s growth ambitions meant that we set ourselves a turnover target of £675,000 in 2019, with the aim of hiring a new Account Executive, continuing to grow our client base and maintaining relationships with existing clients – some of which have been with us since 2002.
The results of Nigel and the team’s hard work last year saw us exceed our target of £675,000 and instead turnover £780,000 – an increase of nearly 20% on the previous year. We also recruited a new Account Executive and added to our portfolio of clients with names including Nottingham’s Robin Hood Network, GVC Group, Woodhead Group, Idlewells Shopping Centre, Infuse Technology and Saint Gobain PAM UK.
Following such a successful year and with one eye on the future of the business, Nigel has taken the decision to promote Account Manager Tom Walters to the role of Account Director. He has also invited Tom to become a Director of the agency to oversee day-to-day operations and help us plan ahead – all things that Nigel sees as vital in order to remain competitive in such a crowded marketplace.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team we have in place,” says Nigel. “We pride ourselves on working hard and playing hard, whilst forming meaningful and long-lasting relationships with our clients. This is the cornerstone of our business and I believe that’s why we’ve been around as long as we have and survived the tough years of the recession,”
He continues, “I decided to come away from the day-to-day of marketing a couple of years ago and focus more on our own business strategy. Part of my long-term planning is future-proofing us so that we don’t end up in the same position we were in during the recession. Tom’s been with us for four years and in that time he’s become a pivotal member of the team, working his way up from Account Executive to Account Manager and driving us forward with new ideas whilst working on exciting, creative projects with a range of clients,”
“I don’t want The Dairy to be here today, gone tomorrow. Our plan is longevity so that clients can rely on us for trusted marketing expertise for decades to come. Tom has the right attitude and all of the business acumen needed to ensure we continue to be successful in what is a constantly changing landscape for the marketing industry – and that’s why I wanted to not only promote him to Account Director, but invite him to join the board of Directors and take more of a hands-on role with continuing to grow the agency and drive success.”
Tom is delighted with the news and sees a bright future for the company as we look ahead to our next exciting chapter. “We’re in a great position heading into 2020. As a team we’ve come on leaps and bounds in recent years – focusing on our own marketing, growing our client base and shouting about the exciting creative work we do every day. This has all lead to more and more inbound enquiries from the kinds of businesses we want to work with,”
“I’m incredibly grateful to Nigel and the team for supporting me and giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us as a business over the next decade.”
