A Review of our Year at The Dairy 2018
2018 was always going to be a tough one for The Dairy. In 2017 we had grown our turnover by 66% with strong profitability – so to top that would be almost unheard of.
Despite the tall order, we set a plan back in January to grow modestly – between 5-10% would be acceptable and to retain solid profitability.
Well, as we draw to the close of the year I can say that we haven’t achieved the former – but have scored with the latter. And as the old adage goes – ‘turnover is vanity and profit is sanity’!
On the team front, we’ve had a settled year and the team remains 8 people strong. We were sad to see long time PR Account Director Fiona Geeson leave us last Christmas – but eager to see what new Account Manager Matt Smith would bring to the party.
Matt joined us from a client-side role with good people skills and a willingness to learn about how an agency operates. His first job was to head up our largest account – Peveril Homes and cope with the many and varied needs of this huge house building company. I am delighted that he has taken this in his stride and is now working on other new account wins within the agency.
I am delighted with the whole team and the way they have come together in these last few months to pick up the work normally handled by Verena Batchelor while she is on maternity leave.
We always aim to work with exciting and growing clients and we continue to promote ourselves to this market on a regional basis.
Our efforts have definitely paid off, with a number of new client wins this year including:-
- Sygnature Discovery
- Nottingham High School
- KS Composites
- Walesby Forest Outdoor Activity Centre
- T. Bailey Fund Services
- Firepit and Potting Shed Bars
- Ellis Fermor & Negus
We have also continued to work with our more established clients such as Nottingham Trent University, the NHS, Bierkeller, McCann, Camloc, East Midlands Chamber and Western Power Distribution.
The plan for next year is for more of the same and to do as much as we can to avoid any of the troubled waters that Brexit might create!
We have a great team in place, some fantastic clients plus ongoing conversations with potential new clients. All of this, coupled with our solid business model based on retainer fees to cover all of our services, means that there’s nothing stopping us from having another busy and exciting 12 months!
Here’s to 2019!
