Nottingham Trent University

Monsters Design Case Study

Nottingham Trent University is a well respected and highly regarded university, based across three campuses throughout Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

We’ve worked with NTU since late 2016 after successfully tendering to become part of the NTU creative family.

We began working with Nottingham Trent University in late 2016 after successfully joining the creative family of agencies and freelancers to work on NTU’s marketing over the next few years. Nottingham Trent University is highly regarded both locally and nationally, offering over 500 courses across 3 campuses while achieving a reputation as one of the most sustainable universities in the world.

As NTU’s marketing partner, we worked on several projects within the first few months of the partnership, including a new campaign for the Employability Team to help students get ready for the world of work.

The Employability Team offers all sorts of help and advice, from simple CV advice to one-to-one sessions, attendance at careers fairs and advice on interview techniques.

Following an internal ideas meeting and working up several design options, we presented the results of our creative thinking to the NTU team and the stand-out favourite was the idea of Monsters!

We had worked out that to a less confident student, the route to a rewarding career was littered with lots of scary things!

So we created our own friendly student monster and a series of monsters that represented all the barriers that are out there, with the aim of taking students on a learning journey to overcome the hurdles and become a more confident and well-rounded person that is equipped to take on anything that faces them – making the scary monsters out there appear much less scary!

The first round of collateral brought into play our in-house skills of creative thinking, design, original illustration, artworking and copywriting, and was produced very quickly, against a tight deadline, to appear at a student careers fair where we received a hugely positive reception. We had 7’ cut out monsters, pull up banners, hand out postcards and other collateral produced for the fair.

  • “It was a pleasure to work with The Dairy on our Employability Campaign. The brief was challenging and we were up against some very tight deadlines - but The Dairy really delivered and the team were reliable and fun to work with throughout every stage of the project."
